A friend posted a particularly interesting article, on Facebook, regarding the spread and prevention of the Great Plague of the 1600s in Scotland and, in particular, in the town of Dundee.
As I read it, despite all our impressive medical advances since, it did not really seem as though we are behaving much differently hundreds of years later.  The same factors of travel and proximity escalated the spread - more easily in densely populated areas on the east of Scotland.
The article considered the decisive, bold and foresighted interventions of one benevolent man in Dundee to protect and prevent the spread of disease and his success.
If you would like to read it for yourself, it can be found here.
